A Pair Of Game 7s Settled As The Second Round Starts

The 2025 NHL Playoffs continue to deliver thrilling moments, with recent Game 7 victories by the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets setting the stage for an exciting second round.​

Saturday's Game 7 Stars Rally to Eliminate Avalanche

On Saturday, May 3, the Dallas Stars overcame a 2–0 third period deficit to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 4–2 in Game 7 of their first-round series. This is the first time any team has been trailing by multiple goals in the third period of a Game 7 and came back to win in regulation.

Mikko Rantanen led the comeback with a hat trick, contributing five goals and seven assists throughout the series. Goaltender Jake Oettinger made 25 saves, while Wyatt Johnston scored the game-winning goal just over 16 minutes into the third period. 

This victory gives the Stars Coach Peter Deboer a perferect 9-0 all time record in Game 7s making him the NHL leader, while on the flip side the Aves Coach Jared Bednar slides to 0-4 in Game 7s.

Last Night's Game 7 Jets Complete Epic Comeback Against Blues

Last night, the Winnipeg Jets staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the St. Louis Blues 4–3 in double overtime of Game 7. Trailing 3–1 with under two minutes remaining, the Jets scored twice, including a game-tying goal by Cole Perfetti with just 3 seconds left—the latest in Game 7 history. Adam Lowry secured the win in double overtime over 16 minutes into the 5th period making it the 3rd longest Game 7 in NHL history. 

The Jets move on into the second round to take on the Dallas Stars with Game 1 dropping puck on Wednesday. ​
