The 2025 NHL Playoffs saw an old fashioned beat down last night as the Florida Panthers asserted dominance in the Eastern Conference Finals, leaving the Canes and fans embarrassed by their Game 2 performance.
Panthers Blank Hurricanes to Take 2–0 Series Lead
The Florida Panthers showcased their playoff prowess with a commanding 5–0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. This win gives the Panthers a 2–0 series lead as they head back to Florida.
Sergei Bobrovsky was stellar between the pipes, recording a 17-save shutout. Offensively, Sam Bennett and Carter Verhaeghe each contributed three points, leading an attack that overwhelmed the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes never looked like they were ready to take the ice as they gave up 3 goals on the first 5 shots. To compound their defensive woes their offence had little drive as they only had 7 shots by the end of the second period. Carolina's goaltender, Frederik Andersen, was pulled after allowing 4 goals in the first two periods, but his back up Pyotr Kochetkov was not much better as he allowed a goal on just 5 shots in the third.
The Panthers' aggressive play has put the Hurricanes on their heels, as Carolina has now lost 14 straight games in the third round of the playoffs leading back to 2009. They will look to break the streak tomorrow when Game 3 takes place in South Florida.
Stars Aim to Extend NHL Playoff Lead Against Oilers Tonight
The Dallas Stars already up 1-0 in the series look to build on their momentum as they host the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals tonight. In Game 1, the Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Oilers 6–3, scoring five unanswered goals in the third period, including three power-play goals in a span of 5:26.
The Stars' ability to capitalize on power-play opportunities and maintain defensive discipline will be crucial as they aim to take a 2–0 series lead before the series shifts to Edmonton.
Puck drop tonight is set for 5:00PM PT.
