Last Night’s NHL Playoff Recap
Florida Panthers 6, Toronto Maple Leafs 1 – Game 5
The Florida Panthers took a 3–2 series lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs with a commanding 6–1 victory. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves, while 6 different Panthers each scored goals. Florida's offense proved to be too overwhelming for the Maple Leafs, leading to the replacement of Toronto's goaltender Joseph Woll after allowing 5 goals on 25 shots. His replacement Matt Murray didn't land the Leafs in much better of a spot though as he also allowed a goal on just 7 shots. The Panthers will head back home as they look to close the series out tomorrow.
Edmonton Oilers 1, Vegas Golden Knights 0 (OT) – Game 5
The Edmonton Oilers advanced to the Western Conference Final with a 1–0 overtime victory over the Vegas Golden Knights, winning the series 4–1. Kasperi Kapanen scored the game-winning goal at 7:19 of overtime, capitalizing on a scramble in front of the net. Goaltender Stuart Skinner recorded a 24-save shutout, his second in a row. Despite a strong performance from goaltender Adin Hill, who made 32 saves, the Golden Knights were unable to generate offense of any kind in the first half of the game with only 8 shots recorded with less than 7 minutes left in the second period, and were eliminated from the playoffs.
Tonight’s Game 5s – May 15, 2025
Carolina Hurricanes @ Washington Capitals – Game 5 – 4:00 PM PT
The Carolina Hurricanes lead the series 3–1 against the Washington Capitals and aim to close out the series on the road. While the Capitals, facing elimination, will rely on their home crowd and veteran leadership to extend the series.
Dallas Stars @ Winnipeg Jets – Game 5 – 6:30 PM PT
The Dallas Stars hold a 3–1 series lead over the Winnipeg Jets and look to clinch the series on the road as well tonight in Winnipeg. The Jets, struggling with a nine-game playoff road losing streak, return home where they hope to capitalize on home-ice advantage to stay alive in the series. With goalie Connor Hellebuyck struggling in the postseason this could be an up hill battle for Jets as he has allowed 37 goals in 11 games in the NHL Playoffs this year.
