After months of regular season battles and playoff drama, the 2026 NBA & NHL seasons have officially reached their conclusion. With both championship series wrapped up and victory parades now complete, attention can finally begin turning toward the 2026-27 campaigns.
Knicks End 53 Year Drought with Championship Victory
For the first time in more than five decades, the New York Knicks are champions again.
The Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games to capture their first NBA championship since 1973. New York controlled the latter part of games much of the series and delivered one of the franchise's most memorable seasons, bringing a long awaited title back to Madison Square Garden.
The championship sparked celebrations throughout New York City, culminating with the team's victory parade on June 18. Fans lined the streets to celebrate a championship many generations of Knicks supporters had waited their entire lives to witness.
For a franchise with one of basketball's most passionate fan bases, ending a 53-year title drought marked one of the biggest stories of the 2026 sports calendar.
Hurricanes Capture Second Championship in Franchise History
The Carolina Hurricanes also completed a memorable postseason run, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in six games to claim the league championship.
The title marked just the second championship in franchise history and the first since 2006. Carolina's balanced attack and strong defense proved too much for Vegas, which was making its third appearance in the final round in only nine seasons of play.
After closing out the series, Hurricanes fans celebrated throughout North Carolina before the organization held its championship parade on June 20. The festivities marked the end of a remarkable season and another major achievement for one of hockey's most passionate fan bases.
NBA & NHL Look Ahead to 2026-27
With the Knicks celebrating on June 18 and the Hurricanes holding their parade on June 20, both leagues can officially close the book on the 2026 season.
The offseason now begins, bringing free agency, trades, draft picks, and renewed optimism across the sports world. Before long, all 62 teams between the two leagues will begin chasing their championship dreams for next year.
