Last Night Hurricanes and Oilers Take Series Openers

Carolina Hurricanes 3, Washington Capitals 2 (OT)

Jaccob Slavin scored the overtime winner as the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Washington Capitals 2–1 in Game 1 of their second-round series. Goaltender Frederik Andersen returned from his first round injury to make 13 saves, helping the Hurricanes take a 1–0 series lead. Ovi and the Caps will look to even the score on Thursday in Game 2 before the series shifts to North Carolina.

Edmonton Oilers 4, Vegas Golden Knights 2

Mark Stone opened the scoring for the series by putting in two first period goals and giving the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead before the script completely flipped. The Edmonton Oilers then persisted to chip away at the lead until evening it in the opening minute of the third. They continued their barrage of shots eventually putting in 2 more goals in a span of 1:16 to end the game and and took a series lead at 1-0 against the Vegas Golden Knights with a 4–2 victory.

The Knights struggled to even put scoring opportunities on the board as their shot total only came out to 17 while the Oilers constant stream of shots added up to 28 allowing them to capitalize. The Knights are set on turning it around in Game 2 on Thursday as they get another chance at home to even the series before heading to Canada for the next two games.
