Thunder Win 1st NBA Championship Since Moving From Seattle

The Oklahoma City Thunder topped a historic season by defeating the Indiana Pacers 103–91 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander, finished off his spectacular season by pouring in 29 points and 12 assists, earning both regular season and Finals MVP—joining an elite group to win both in the same year.

Despite playing most of the game without star guard Tyrese Haliburton after a first‑quarter Achilles injury, the Pacers battled hard, even leading at the half. But Oklahoma City's dominant defense turned decisive in the third and fourth quarters.

Jalen Williams added 20 points and Chet Holmgren chipped in 18, helping cement the franchise’s second NBA title—and first since the team moved from Seattle. The Thunder's 84 wins across the regular season and playoffs moved them into the top 3 teams for most wins in a season, now enshrined with the Bulls and Warriors. This also marks the continuity of a league trend, crowning seven different NBA champions in the last seven seasons.

Game 7 Recent History

This was the fourth NBA Finals Game 7 since 2010. The Cleveland Cavaliers knocked off the Golden State Warriors in 2016. The Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs in 2013. Along with the Los Angeles Lakers then led by Kobe, who got the win over the Boston Celtics in 2010.
