Vegas Has A Dragon To Slay As Oilers Burn Golden Knights In OT, While Capitals Bring The Storm To The Hurricanes

The 2025 NHL Playoffs continue to deliver thrilling matchups and standout performances into round two as yet another game goes to overtime.

Last Night’s NHL Playoff Highlights

Edmonton Oilers 5, Vegas Golden Knights 4 (OT) – Game 2

After battling back from a two goal deficit, the Knights extended the game to overtime. That's where things seemed to come apart as Nicolas Roy's cross check earned him a 5 minute major game misconduct penalty 5:37 into OT. Even as things looked bleak Vegas was able to kill the extended penalty before Brayden McNabb went into the boards with no subsequential penalty being called on the Oilers' Viktor Arvidsson. This left many upset as McNabb had to retreat to the locker room for evaluation. Then just 17 seconds later it all was over when Leon Draisaitl scored the overtime winner at 15:20, lifting the Edmonton Oilers to a 5–4 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights and a 2–0 series lead. Connor McDavid who also had a quiet game up to that point assisted on the game-winning goal.

The Oilers who trailed 1-0 in the first period have now won 6 straight NHL Playoff games with a comeback performance making them the first team in history to do so. Edmonton now heads home with a commanding lead in the series while the Golden Knights who have never been swept in their 8 year history will be looking to get the series back home for game 5.

Washington Capitals 3, Carolina Hurricanes 1 – Game 2

The Washington Capitals evened their series against the Carolina Hurricanes with a 3-1 wire to wire win. Tom Wilson led the way with a goal and an assist, while goaltender Logan Thompson made 27 saves. The series is now tied 1–1 as it shifts to Carolina for Games 3 and 4.

Tonight’s Games – Friday, May 9

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Florida Panthers – Game 3 – 4:00 PM PT

The Toronto Maple Leafs hold a 2–0 series lead over the Panthers as the series moves to Florida. Goaltender Joseph Woll has been stellar in net, stepping in for the injured Anthony Stolarz who is listed as out again tonight on the injury report. The Panthers look to bounce back on home ice though and avoid falling into a 3–0 hole.

Dallas Stars @ Winnipeg Jets – Game 2 – 6:30 PM PT

The Dallas Stars lead the series 1–0 after a 3–2 victory in Game 1, highlighted by Mikko Rantanen's natural hat trick in the second period. The Winnipeg Jets aim to even the series at home, relying on their strong regular-season performance to regain momentum.
