Ranked Upsets of the Week

Rivalry week delivered its usual serving of chaos, and three ranked teams found themselves on the wrong end of upsets:

Texas Tops Rival A&M in a Top-20 Showdown

No. 3 Texas A&M 17 at No. 16 Texas 27

The Longhorns played with purpose, energy, and a crowd that refused to sit down. Texas A&M’s playoff hopes took a hit after being outmuscled, but being their first loss of the season they are projected to still be in the run, as we wait until Tuesday to find where they now sit.

Arizona State Smothers Rival Arizona

No. 25 Arizona 23 at No. 20 Arizona State 7

The Wildcats gave their rivals nothing all night. Their defense was lights out, holding Arizona State to just 7 points while dominating the game to finish with a better record than their foes.

Cal Stuns SMU in a Wild Finish

No. 21 SMU 35 at Cal 38

This one was the biggest surprise of the week as it came down to the final seconds as SMU missed the tying field goal in the final seconds. It was a classic chaos game with Cal jumping out to an early lead before allowing the Mustangs to make a near comeback.

Lane Kiffin’s Exit From Ole Miss to LSU

In the biggest off-field news of the day, Lane Kiffin officially announced he’s leaving Ole Miss to take over at LSU, and the fallout is already massive.

  • He’s bringing multiple coaches from the Ole Miss staff with him.

  • Ole Miss has blocked him from coaching in the postseason, ending any hope of a farewell playoff run.

  • Kiffin is reportedly moving full force into LSU recruiting and staffing immediately, leaving the Rebels scrambling.

It’s bold. It’s messy. It’s peak Kiffin. And with LSU landing a splash hire, the SEC just became even more dramatic than usual.
