College Football Week 1 Big Games
Thursday Night - Nebraska vs. Cincinnati
The Cornhuskers travel to a neutral Kansas City Arrowhead Stadium to open their season against Cincinnati. Nebraska enters as a favorite, especially as head coach Matt Rhule enters his 3rd season where he has historically been able to make major jumps in college football programs in the past. While star tight end Travis Kelce played his college ball at Cincinnati, and now plays in Kansas City, be on the watch for the Mahomes lookalike Dylan Raiola to show out in his sophomore debut for the Huskers.
No. 1 Texas vs. No. 3 Ohio State
In a college football spectacle, No. 1 Texas locks horns with No. 3 Ohio State in a rematch of last year’s CFP semifinal one of the highest anticipated openers in modern history. Especially with the defending champion Buckeyes taking on Heisman favorite Arch Manning. This will be a huge start to Saturday football as it could affect award and even playoff seeding later this season.
No. 4 Clemson vs. No. 9 LSU
Another marquee showdown takes place Saturday as Clemson hosts LSU in a high-stakes battle between top-tier contenders. While Clemson got knocked out of last year's College Football Playoffs by Texas in the first round they look to bounce back to their once title fighting form. Meanwhile, LSU who has been a disappointment for the past few years to fans and boosters, even while producing a Heisman winner, hope to get off to a hot start behind another preseason Heisman contender Garrett Nussmeier.
Sunday - No. 6 Notre Dame vs. No. 10 Miami
Sunday will also feature a top 10 matchup as the once deemed "Cons vs Convicts" showdown takes place in south Florida. Notre Dame coming off a loss in the championship last year will try to one up its success. While Miami who just produced the NFL number one overall pick this spring looks to reignite the success they had, now with Georgia QB transfer Carson Beck.
Monday Night — Bill Belichick's UNC Hosts TCU
College football Week 1 completes the headlines with legendary coach Bill Belichick making his college debut as North Carolina’s head coach, naming transfer Gio Lopez as quarterback just days before the game. This will be a look into if the big name coach still has it, or has failed to get competitive players and may be too concerned with off the field matters.
