Ranked Upsets That Shook the Poll
Only three ranked teams fell this week, but each loss reshaped the rankings.
Pitt 42, No. 16 Georgia Tech 28
Pitt delivered the most eye-opening upset of the weekend, piling on 42 points and overwhelming the Yellow Jackets from the opening quarter. Georgia Tech’s defense had no answers, and the loss most likely knocks them out of ACC contention.
Wisconsin 27, No. 21 Illinois 10
Illinois entered the game riding momentum, but Wisconsin’s defense slammed the door shut while their run game controlled the tempo. Illinois’ 10-point output was their lowest of the season, sending them back out of the rankings.
TCU 17, No. 23 Houston 14
In a gritty defensive battle, TCU stunned Houston with a late fourth-quarter score. Houston’s offense stalled repeatedly in key moments, while also missing two potential tying field goals in the fourth. The narrow loss knocked them out of the Top 25 after a short one week stint.
