College Football Big Games to Watch in Week 4
This Saturday’s college football slate is loaded with more matchups that could shift the playoff picture. Here are four of the most compelling:
(21)Michigan at Nebraska — Nebraska is 3-0 so far and riding momentum under Matt Rhule, while Michigan (2-1) looks to move back up in the standings after an early season loss to Oklahoma. This could be a standout game in Nebraska's postseason hopes as they currently face only 2 other ranked teams this year.
(17)Texas Tech at (16)Utah — A ranked Big 12 showdown early in the day. Both teams are aiming to prove they belong among the top tiers this season. Both defenses will be tested by proficient offenses.
(22)Auburn at (11)Oklahoma — An SEC matchup with both teams trying to build steam. Oklahoma has looked strong, while Auburn is hoping to show grit on the road.
(9)Illinois at (19)Indiana — With both teams coming in undefeated, Illinois faces off with Indiana in a Big Ten clash with huge stakes. Both teams are making noise, and a win here would boost playoff strength of schedule for either school.
These games aren’t just about keeping records clean — they’re about making statements. Expect surprises, close finishes, and some underdog moments.
ACC Eyes New Scheduling Format: More Power 4 Matchups
Big changes could be coming for ACC football schedules. According to multiple sources, the ACC is "closing in" on new rules that would require every member school to play at least 10 games per season against teams from Power 4 conferences.
Some details are still up in the air:
Whether ACC teams will play 8 or 9 conference games is under discussion.
Two models are being floated: the “8+2” model (eight ACC games plus two non-conference games against Power 4 opponents) or a nine-game ACC slate with at least one additional Power 4 nonconference game required.
Schools like Clemson and Florida State have expressed concern about how this may impact their traditional non-conference rivalries.
If adopted, this would bring the ACC in line with the move already made by the SEC, where they announced last month that it would move from an eight to nine game conference slate. This was justified by emphasizing strength of schedule and aligning the league for better playoff consideration.
