Las Vegas Aces Take 2–0 Finals Lead Over Mercury
The Las Vegas Aces are just two wins away from another WNBA title after a commanding performance on Sunday. Vegas handled business on their home court, taking down the Phoenix Mercury 91–78 to grab a 2–0 series lead in the Finals. The atmosphere was electric, and the Aces fed off it from tip-off.
A’ja Wilson once again looked unstoppable, posting 28 points and 14 rebounds in a display that cemented why she’s the league’s best player. Jackie Young had 32 points to lead the way, while Chelsea Gray added 10 of her own. Defensively, Vegas swarmed the Mercury all night, forcing 17.9% shooting from three.
For the Mercury, Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally had 23 and 22 points respectfully, while Alyssa Thomas only added 10 of her own. The Aces’ poise, depth, and chemistry have made the difference through the first two games and they now have their eyes on another championship celebration.
Game 3 Preview: Aces Look to Extend their lead
The Finals shift to Phoenix on Wednesday, where the Mercury will look to avoid the dreaded 3-0 hole in front of their home crowd. Down 0–2, Phoenix has no margin for error. They’ll need big nights from anywhere they can get it while finding a way to limit Wilson’s interior dominance, something no team has done successfully this postseason.
For the Aces, Becky Hammon’s squad knows the mission, get one step closer to finishing the job. Expect Vegas to stay aggressive, push the pace, and rely on their veteran leadership to maintain control.
