The Las Vegas Raiders have made their intentions clear: they’re building for sustained success. In a major move today, the Silver and Black locked down defensive powerhouse Maxx Crosby with a historic contract extension while shoring up the offensive line by signing veteran guard Alex Cappa. These moves signal that the Raiders are doubling down on their core strengths heading into next season.
Maxx Crosby: The Heart of the Raiders Defense Stays Home
It’s official—Maxx Crosby isn’t going anywhere. The relentless edge rusher inked a three-year, $106.5 million extension, securing his place as one of the highest-paid defensive players in NFL history. With $91.5 million guaranteed, the Raiders are showing just how much they value Crosby’s leadership and production.
Since being drafted in 2019, Crosby has racked up 59.5 sacks, 144 quarterback hits, and 105 tackles for loss—making him the heartbeat of Las Vegas’ defense. Even after battling an ankle injury in 2024, he still led the team in pressures and sacks. Now, with Pete Carroll taking over as head coach, Crosby remains the cornerstone of the Raiders' defensive identity.
"Maxx is a competitor in every sense of the word. His drive sets the tone for our entire team," Carroll said of the extension.
Alex Cappa: A Much-Needed Boost for the O-Line
On the other side of the ball, the Raiders addressed a glaring need by signing veteran guard Alex Cappa to a two-year, $11.2 million deal, including $5.5 million guaranteed. Cappa was recently released by the Cincinnati Bengals but quickly found a new home in Las Vegas, where his experience will be invaluable in protecting whoever lines up under center next season.
With 96 career starts and a Super Bowl ring from his time in Tampa Bay, Cappa brings toughness and leadership to an offensive line that struggled in pass protection last season. The Raiders allowed far too much pressure up the middle in 2024, and Cappa’s presence should help stabilize the interior.
What’s Next for the Raiders?
These moves send a strong message: Las Vegas is gearing up for a deep run next fall. Keeping Crosby in town ensures the defense remains a force to be reckoned with, while Cappa strengthens a crucial weak spot on the offensive front.
As the offseason unfolds, all eyes will be on the Raiders' next moves—will they find a franchise quarterback, add more firepower to the receiving corps, or double down on defense?
One thing’s for sure: with Crosby leading the charge and Cappa adding grit in the trenches, Raider Nation has plenty to look forward to when football returns next fall.
