Athletics' Transitional Season at Sutter Health Park
The Athletics are navigating a unique season, playing their home games at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento. This move follows their departure from Oakland and precedes their planned relocation to Las Vegas. Sutter Health Park, with a capacity of approximately 14,000, offers a more intimate setting compared to the Oakland Coliseum. The team shares this ballpark with the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
The lack of moving fully to Las Vegas has an interesting outcome so far as the Athletics are now engaging with a new fan base in the Sacramento area. Meanwhile the team's Triple-A affiliate the Las Vegas Aviators already preside in Vegas with their own stadium, which could have been shared even with the immense summer heat, and a relationship could have started with the awaiting fans in Las Vegas. But with the team still playing out of state, locals feel little connection to the team especially as their carry a 23-37 record which is 26th out of the 30 teams.
Progress on the New Las Vegas Stadium
Plans for the Athletics' stadium in Las Vegas are about to see new advancement with construction officially scheduled to break ground this month (June). Completion is targeted for 2028, aligning with the MLB season's start. The new ballpark will be situated on the previous Tropicana site on the Las Vegas Strip, and is designed to be a 33,000 seat state-of-the-art facility, featuring modern amenities and aiming to provide an exceptional experience for fans.
