NFL Preseason Week 2 Recap: Game Results & Quick Takeaways

Here’s how the NFL Preseason action played out for week 2—plus a quick highlight for each matchup:

Friday

  • Titans 23 at Falcons 20: A close opener—Titans edge the Falcons but concerned some since their number 1 overall pick Cam Ward putting up the worst QB rating for his team.

  • Chiefs 16 at Seahawks 33: Seattle’s defense and offense both showed up to stifle Kansas City, while Sam Darnold posted a perfect 4-4 passing night in his limited action.

Saturday

  • Packers 23 at Colts 19: Sean Clifford’s late TD scramble and run sealed it—Colts’ QB battle heated up as both contenders improved their play from Week 1.

  • Browns 22 at Eagles 13: Shedeur Sanders had to sit by after a injury earlier in the week and watch Dillion Gabriel take his reps while he threw an INT and lost a fumble.

  • Patriots 20 at Vikings 12: New England’s run game found rhythm as Minnesota's backups couldn’t keep up.

  • Texans 20 at Panthers 3: Houston handled Carolina while C.J. Stroud tossed a TD in one of his two series, and Bryce Young failing to complete a pass.

  • Dolphins 24 at Lions 17: In a game of backups Miami’s QBs got it done, while Detroit struggled to convert in key moments.

  • 49ers 22 at Raiders 19: San Francisco won on a walk off field goal but Raiders fans where excited by the play of Geno Smith and Ashton Jeanty in the time they got.

  • Buccaneers 17 at Steelers 14: Teddy Bridgewater's precision edged out Pittsburgh in a gritty showdown as he tossed two TDs.

  • Ravens 31 at Cowboys 13: With most starters taking the day off, Baltimore topped Dallas even with Cooper Rush's two INTs, partially thanks to their new kicker Tyler Loop.

  • Chargers 22 at Rams 23: In the battle for LA, Rams QB Stetson Bennett took the helm for the whole game—as his late game TD lifted them to a win.

  • Jets 12 at Giants 31: Jaxson Dart impressed again, while on the flipside Justin Fields looked less than sharp.

  • Cardinals 7 at Broncos 27: Denver’s offense took control early and never looked back, while Jarrett Stidham (DEN) and Jacoby Brissett (AZ) both looked like capable backups.

Sunday

  • Jaguars 17 at Saints 17: Trevor Lawrence came out firing in the little time he got while Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough's QB battle heated up for NOLA.

  • Bills 0 at Bears 38: Chicago shut out Buffalo and never let their offense get going, while Caleb Williams looked sharp in his only two series.

Monday

  • Bengals 31 at Commanders 17: Both starting QBs looked on point in their time on the field with Joe Burrow throwing for a TD and Jayden Daniels scrambling for his own TD.

Colts Name Daniel Jones Starter, Leaving Richardson Twirling in the Wind

In a decision raising eyebrows, the Indianapolis Colts named veteran Daniel Jones their starting QB for Week 1 over prized rookie Anthony Richardson. After a preseason where neither pulled away, Jones won the job due to consistency, QB mechanics, and familiarity with NFL schemes—suggesting the Colts may have misjudged their investment in Richardson with the No. 4 pick in 2023.
