Team USA Explodes In Exhibition Tune Up, Eyes Brazil In WBC Opener

USA Takes Warmup WBC Exhibition Game

That’ll wake up the bats.

Team USA's baseball team rolled to a dominant 15-1 win in 10 innings yesterday over the San Francisco Giants spring training team, and while it doesn’t count in the standings, it hopefully will give momentum.

From the first few frames, the lineup looked locked in. Quality at bats. Patience at the plate. And overall top notch offense.

Exhibition games are about timing and rhythm. Hitters need live pitching. Pitchers need competitive reps. Defenders need game speed reads. USA checked all those boxes.

The game turned into a showcase of depth, with reserves getting meaningful reps and contributing to the blowout. That matters in a tournament format where bullpen management and bench production can decide everything.

Fifteen runs won’t show up when pool play begins, but confidence will.

Friday vs Brazil: It Gets Real

The tune up is over. Now it’s tournament time.

Team USA opens round robin play Friday against the Brazil national team, and while some fans may circle other matchups, this is the tone setter.

On the mound for Game 1? Logan Webb, the ace from the Giants. Webb brings the kind of composure you want in an opener where early nerves can spike.

If he commands the zone and keeps the ball on the ground, USA can settle in quickly.

Then there’s the storyline in the dugout.

Manager Mark DeRosa got the call again to lead Team USA, despite not holding a coaching position in Major League Baseball. He managed the club in the previous World Baseball Classic, guiding a stacked roster to a second place finish.

Second place isn’t failure, but with elite talent across the diamond, expectations remain sky high.

This time around, the pressure feels heavier.

With global competition stronger than ever, tournament baseball leaves zero margin for slow starts. Friday isn’t just about beating Brazil. It’s about establishing identity:

  • Aggressive base running

  • Deep bullpen usage

  • Tight defensive execution

  • Smart situational hitting

In short: clean baseball.

Because in a short tournament, one slip can turn into an early exit.
