Last Night’s NHL Playoff Recap
Carolina Hurricanes 3, Washington Capitals 1 – Game 5
The Carolina Hurricanes secured their spot in the Eastern Conference Final with a 3–1 victory over the Washington Capitals, winning the series 4–1. Andrei Svechnikov scored the game-winning goal at 18:01 of the third period, breaking a 1–1 tie before the Canes were able to put in a empty netter to extend the lead. The Hurricanes will face the winner of the Florida Panthers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs series.
Winnipeg Jets 4, Dallas Stars 0 – Game 5
Facing elimination, the Winnipeg Jets responded with a 4–0 shutout of Dallas, narrowing the series to 3–2 Stars. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves for his second shutout in this year's NHL Playoffs. This has been a very up and down postseason, for Hellebuyck filled with inconsistent play where he did not look like the same player from the Presidents' Trophy winning Jets regular season. With both of his shutouts coming at home, his road play will be a worry when the series shifts back to Dallas for Game 6 tomorrow.
Tonight’s Game 6 – May 16, 2025
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Florida Panthers – Game 6 – 5:00 PM PT
The Florida Panthers lead the series 3–2 and have the opportunity to clinch a spot in the Eastern Conference Final with a win tonight at home. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been instrumental in the Panthers' success stifling the Leafs offense for most of the series so far. Meanwhile, facing elimination, Toronto will try to stop Florida's three game winning streak after starting the series 2-0 and force a Game 7 back in Toronto on Sunday.
